There are a few things that need to be considered before going to purchase a dining table. One would be the design that will blend in with the rest of your dining room and surrounding rooms. Another thing to consider would be the material that you desire your dining table to be made from? Will your budget allow you to go with a wood dining table or will you need to go with the wood veneer or metal table? Also consideration will be needed for the shape of your dining room table. Which table will fit better, a round, oval, rectangle or square? How many extensions will you need for your guests? What is the best size needed that will fit into the space that is allotted for your table?
Room size is the most important. One will need after all other furniture is added to the room in the form of china cabinets and buffets, etc., 30" to 36" of space around the dining set. This is to accommodate the scooting of chairs out from the table and people walking around the table. If the family is very large, that is the size of the person, or in the use of overstuffed chairs at the table, the free space around the dining room set increases to 48". Each person should have 22" along the perimeter of the dining set for eating comfort, this will also accommodate a 20" x 44" area in the center of the table for food.
